PHOTO REJUVENATION IPL
LHR Skin and Vein Center — Rochester, MI
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) photo rejuvenation is one of the most versatile, non-invasive skin treatments available today — and at LHR Skin and Vein Center, it is performed exclusively by Diana Callas, a licensed esthetician with over 40 years of experience in Rochester, MI.
IPL treats a wide range of skin concerns — sun damage, age spots, rosacea, broken capillaries, melasma, fine lines, acne, and uneven skin tone — in a single treatment session, with no surgery, no injections, and no significant downtime.
WHAT IS IPL PHOTO REJUVENATION?
IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. Unlike a traditional laser that uses a single focused wavelength, IPL delivers broad-spectrum light energy at multiple wavelengths simultaneously. This allows a single treatment to address multiple skin concerns at once — pigmentation, vascular issues, texture, and overall radiance.
During treatment, carefully controlled pulses of light penetrate the skin and are absorbed by specific targets — melanin in pigmented spots, hemoglobin in blood vessels, and collagen-producing cells in deeper tissue. The body then naturally processes and eliminates the damaged cells, revealing clearer, more even, more youthful-looking skin in the weeks that follow.
Once cumulative sun damage is addressed, the skin begins producing collagen again — and over time, texture improves, pores tighten, and fine lines diminish.
IPL photo rejuvenation has consistently ranked among the top five most popular non-surgical aesthetic procedures in the United States. It works, it’s comfortable, and the results are visible.
THE LUVO LUCENT IPL — WHY IT’S IN A CLASS OF ITS OWN
At LHR Skin and Vein Center, Diana uses the Luvo Lucent IPL — one of the most advanced professional IPL systems currently on the market. Here is what sets it apart:
3,500 Watts of Power — The Highest Available
The Lucent IPL delivers 3,500 watts of output — the highest of any IPL system on the market. More power means treatments can be performed at the precise energy levels required for real, lasting results rather than surface-level improvements.
Seven Expert Filters for Precision Targeting
Seven interchangeable filters, each calibrated to a specific wavelength, allow Diana to target your exact concern with precision — whether that is sun damage, broken capillaries, acne, or unwanted hair — rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach.
Four Advanced Pulse Modes
Four specially designed pulse modes allow Diana to customize energy delivery for maximum effectiveness and comfort. Different skin concerns and different skin types respond better to different pulse patterns — the Lucent IPL provides the flexibility to treat every client as an individual.
Automatic Cooling Technology
Built-in automatic cooling protects the outer layer of skin during treatment. This keeps you comfortable, reduces post-treatment redness, and allows higher energy levels to be used safely — improving both comfort and results simultaneously.
Built-In Presets with LCD Touchscreen
A precise, user-friendly interface with built-in treatment presets allows Diana to dial in exact parameters for your skin type and concern quickly and accurately — ensuring consistent, repeatable results every session.
Large 15mm x 40mm Treatment Spot Size
The Lucent IPL’s large spot size covers more skin per pulse than smaller systems — meaning faster treatments without sacrificing precision or effectiveness.
CONDITIONS TREATED
The Luvo Lucent IPL is one of the most versatile skin treatment systems available. At LHR Skin and Vein Center, Diana uses it to address the following concerns:
Sun Damage and Age Spots — Years of sun exposure leave behind brown spots, freckles, and uneven pigmentation. IPL targets the melanin in these spots, breaking them down so the body can naturally eliminate them. Most clients see dramatic lightening within one to three weeks of treatment.
Rosacea and Facial Redness — Chronic redness, flushing, and the diffuse redness associated with rosacea respond exceptionally well to IPL. The light targets hemoglobin in the dilated blood vessels responsible for redness, reducing their appearance significantly. Note that rosacea typically requires more sessions than isolated pigmentation concerns — Diana covers this in depth in her guide to IPL and rosacea.

Broken Capillaries and Spider Veins —
Visible broken blood vessels on the face can be safely and effectively treated with IPL. The light energy heats the vessel wall, causing it to collapse and be reabsorbed naturally by the body.
Melasma and Hyperpigmentation —
Hormonal pigmentation, pregnancy mask, and other forms of uneven skin tone can be significantly improved with a series of IPL treatments targeting excess melanin. Diana will assess your specific pigmentation pattern at your consultation to determine whether IPL is the right approach for your skin.
Fine Lines and Wrinkles —
IPL stimulates collagen production deep within the skin by heating collagen fibers and activating fibroblasts. Over time this leads to firmer, smoother, more youthful-looking skin with visibly improved texture.
Acne —
The Lucent IPL emits specific wavelengths that target Cutibacterium acnes — the bacteria responsible for acne inflammation. A series of treatments reduces active breakouts and helps prevent future ones.
Dull or Uneven Skin Tone —
Even without specific spots or vessels to target, IPL delivers a broad brightening and rejuvenating effect that leaves skin looking more radiant, even, and refreshed.
A Note on IPL Hair Removal
The Lucent IPL can be used for hair removal on the face, neck, and body by targeting melanin in the hair follicle. However, there is an important clinical reality that Diana is transparent about: IPL progressively depigments the hair follicle over time. As the hair loses pigment, IPL becomes less effective — and eventually, electrolysis becomes the only method capable of achieving permanent results. If permanent hair removal is your primary goal, Diana will discuss whether LightSheer Diode Laser or electrolysis is the more appropriate starting point for your situation.

WHY THE PERSON MATTERS MORE THAN THE MACHINE
The Luvo Lucent IPL is exceptional technology. But technology is only as good as the person operating it.
IPL treatments require a precise understanding of skin anatomy, light physics, and how different skin tones and conditions respond to varying wavelengths and energy levels. The wrong settings on the wrong skin type can cause burns, hyperpigmentation, or simply ineffective results. This is why your choice of provider matters every bit as much as your choice of equipment.
Diana Callas has been performing skin treatments in Rochester, MI for over 35 years. She is a licensed esthetician with extensive training in laser and light-based therapies, and she has treated thousands of clients across every skin tone and skin type. She has seen what happens when IPL is done incorrectly — and she has spent decades refining her technique to ensure every client receives the safest, most effective treatment possible.
When you come to LHR Skin and Vein Center, you are not handed off to a recently trained technician following a protocol. You work directly with Diana — one experienced professional who takes the time to understand your skin, your history, and your goals before delivering a single pulse of light.
That combination of advanced technology and genuine clinical expertise is what separates LHR Skin and Vein Center from every chain clinic and med spa in Metro Detroit
WHAT TO EXPECT
Before Your Treatment
Diana will review your skin and medical history at your free consultation before recommending IPL. In the weeks leading up to treatment you should avoid sun exposure and tanning beds, discontinue retinol and certain acids on the treatment area, and avoid Accutane for at least six months prior. Diana will provide a complete preparation checklist at your consultation.
During Your Treatment
You will be given protective eyewear before treatment begins. A cooling gel may be applied to the treatment area for additional comfort. Diana will apply the Lucent IPL handpiece to your skin, delivering controlled pulses of light. Most clients describe the sensation as a mild rubber band snap followed by a brief warmth. Treatment times range from 10 to 60 minutes depending on the area size and concerns being addressed.
After Your Treatment
Some redness and warmth in the treated area is normal and typically resolves within a few hours. Brown spots may temporarily darken before flaking away over the following one to two weeks — this is the treatment working exactly as it should. Most clients return to normal activities immediately. Sun protection on treated areas is essential in the weeks following your session.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
Most clients achieve their desired results in three to five sessions spaced approximately one month apart. Rosacea and melasma may require additional sessions depending on severity. Diana will build a personalized treatment plan at your consultation. Annual maintenance sessions are typically recommended to sustain results long term.
FAQ
Is IPL safe for darker skin tones?
IPL works by targeting melanin — which means skin tone is a critical factor in treatment safety. On deeper skin tones, standard IPL settings carry a higher risk of burns or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation if not properly calibrated. Diana assesses every client’s skin individually before treatment and adjusts the Lucent IPL’s filters, pulse mode, and energy levels accordingly. If IPL is not the safest option for your skin tone, she will tell you — and recommend an appropriate alternative.
How is IPL different from laser treatment?
A laser delivers a single focused wavelength of light to one specific target. IPL delivers multiple wavelengths simultaneously, allowing it to address several concerns in one session. For clients with multiple skin concerns — sun damage plus redness, for example — IPL is often the more efficient choice. For highly targeted concerns, a dedicated laser may be more precise. Diana will advise which approach is right for your goals.
Will I need to take time off work?
Most clients experience mild redness for a few hours following treatment and return to normal activities the same day. Brown spots will darken temporarily before flaking away over one to two weeks — this is visible but not typically disruptive. For clients with significant sun damage, Diana will set realistic expectations at your consultation.
Can IPL be combined with other treatments?
Yes. IPL pairs well with other services offered at LHR Skin and Vein Center, including Morpheus8 RF microneedling for clients seeking both skin rejuvenation and deeper tissue remodeling. Diana will advise on sequencing and timing at your consultation.
